<\/p>\nAt 29 years old, Hsieh Yi-ying currently works as a Project Director at a European company. She was recruited by the company while still in university, and over the past six years not only has her salary increased significantly, but she has also enjoyed a pleasant work environment and excellent benefits. Her boss does not want to lose her, and she herself has never considered changing jobs.<\/p>\n
Hsieh Yi-ying graduated from the Department of Journalism at Shih Hsin University. During her senior year, she was exposed to many part-time opportunities involving market research and telephone interviews. This experience attracted the attention of a staffing agency, which recommended her to join the newly established Enspyre Mobile Business Center.<\/p>\n

What originally began as a part-time telemarketing job for two and a half days a week turned into a full-time position after only three months. Her starting salary was NT$30,000, even before she had graduated from university.<\/p>\n
Hsieh Yi-ying said that while she was working part-time, her foreign boss had actually been quietly observing the employees. According to her, foreign companies value ability the most and prefer young people with social experience and visible potential. Those who are proactive and motivated are especially appreciated.<\/p>\n
She believes her outgoing personality suited the atmosphere of foreign companies, where discussion and self-expression are encouraged among employees. The part-time opportunity allowed her to demonstrate her abilities, producing results far beyond what a traditional interview could achieve.<\/p>\n
Hsieh Yi-ying explained that being able to speak English is definitely an advantage for entering a foreign company, but the true key to surviving in European and American firms is enjoying self-expression and letting others hear your ideas. She admitted that, as someone educated in Taiwan\u2019s school system, she was initially afraid to speak up after joining the company. However, over time she realized that proactively identifying problems, giving suggestions, following up on project progress, and constantly observing the environment helped her perform well. This attitude made her the only one among three interns hired at the same time to be promoted to a full-time position.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are actually many opportunities to stand out in foreign companies,\u201d she said. Unlike many Taiwanese companies, foreign firms place less emphasis on seniority rules. If your abilities are recognized, bosses may even proactively recommend you to larger corporations. Because foreign companies in Taiwan maintain close professional networks, talent referrals rely heavily on reputation and connections. She noted that two or three highly experienced marketing professionals from her company had already moved on to large multinational corporations.<\/p>\n
Hsieh Yi-ying also used her own experience as an example, explaining that when companies struggle to find management-level talent externally, they often promote employees internally. At such moments, both salary and position may increase dramatically. She herself was promoted to a manager-level position at a small-to-medium-sized European company around the age of 27, with a salary double what she earned when she first entered the industry.<\/p>\n
Jiang Pei-ru currently works in foreign-language customer service at a foreign company. She said that the knowledge and experience she gained there were many times greater than what she learned at Taiwanese companies in the past. Thanks to her positive and proactive personality, she successfully negotiated a 50% salary increase within just two years and said that she \u201clearns something different every year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Jiang Pei-ru explained that she went abroad during junior high school and studied and lived in both the United States and the United Kingdom. After graduating from university, she returned to Taiwan and first worked as a foreign-language secretary at a traditional Taiwanese company for one year.<\/p>\n
Later, she joined her current foreign company, and the interview process left a deep impression on her. In a conversational atmosphere, the boss spent more than an hour explaining the company\u2019s philosophy. After joining the company, she had many opportunities to visit clients together with her boss, resulting in a strong connection with her supervisors and learning experiences far beyond her previous job.<\/p>\n
At the Taiwanese company where she previously worked, she said employees often kept their heads down and worked quietly, and even taking legitimate leave carried the risk of being criticized. After moving to a foreign company, communication channels and workplace atmosphere became far more open and positive, which she greatly appreciated.<\/p>\n
In terms of benefits, the leave system is more flexible and exceeds Taiwan\u2019s labor standards. After six months of employment, employees receive five days of paid leave, and after one year they can receive as many as fifteen days.<\/p>\n
Jiang Pei-ru described herself as proactive and willing to demonstrate her abilities. If she volunteered to work overtime, her boss always noticed her efforts. She added that in the company\u2019s communication-oriented environment, bosses often invite employees out for meals on weekends to privately review work performance or motivate morale.<\/p>\n
Currently, her responsibilities include receiving foreign-language clients, handling business English translation, operating online courses, and assisting foreign clients. Her work is highly diversified.<\/p>\n
She advised English-major graduates to frequently use their language abilities in real-world environments rather than relying solely on academic performance. For those hoping to enter European or American foreign companies, she recommended actively promoting oneself during interviews \u2014 even exaggerating slightly \u2014 in order to showcase strengths within a short period of time. She believes introverted personalities have fewer advantages in foreign companies because, in that environment, \u201chumility is not considered a virtue.\u201d<\/p>\n
Originally a geology major, she now uses her foreign-language skills to learn customer service and marketing knowledge through her work. She believes that even if her English had been excellent before, she would not have had such learning opportunities otherwise.
